Have a supply of food that you carry with you when winter camping, in case you lose your original supply. On the other hand if you are parked in the wilderness, beware of insects and animals lurking around. There are many manufactures of good quality boots.
The gear can run you some bucks, but the cost is nominal compared to most other sports. There are also many types of campgrounds to choose from.
